I started martial arts training (Taekwondo) in 1971 as a ten year old in Belfast, Northern Ireland. However, the club folded and I found it difficult to find another Club within travelling distance. I did not get involved in Martial Arts again until I was an adult and attended self-defence classes.
After moving to England with my family, I started training at a Wado Ryu based karate club that came under the umbrella of the Amateur Martial Association (AMA). In addition I have trained in other multi martial arts styles.
I started coaching martial arts and fitness in 1989 on a part time basis while I pursued a career in Leisure with Cotswold District Council – Leisure Services and continued to study up to Postgraduate level in the leisure industry. In July 2013 I made the decision to leave my job as Group Manager for Leisure Services at Cotswold District Council and follow my dream of becoming a professional coach and running my own business. As a result, Reid’s Box Skills Martial Arts & Fitness was established in July 2013.
